Neuromodulators  /  Botox® in San Diego & La Jolla

Look Rested, Not Done

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles behind forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Injections take about 3–10 minutes, results typically appear within 3–10 days, and a smoother, rested look lasts about 3–4 months.
From first-timers to maintenance regulars, every plan starts with your face — its movement, its symmetry, its story — and doses to preserve it. Our La Jolla med spa keeps dosing conservative and results natural.
Every treatment at our La Jolla med spa is performed by experienced injectors under the supervision of Dr. Tim Sayed, a double board-certified plastic surgeon.

The treatment, explained

What Is Botox and How Does It Work?

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a purified neuromodulator. Injected in tiny, precise doses, it temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to contract. The muscle relaxes, the overlying skin smooths, and dynamic wrinkles — the lines formed by repeated expression — soften or disappear. It does not fill or freeze the whole face; untreated muscles move normally, which is what keeps results looking natural.

Does Botox freeze your face?

No — when dosed and placed conservatively by an experienced injector, Botox relaxes only the targeted muscles. You can still smile, raise your brows, and show expression; the harsh etched-in lines simply look softer.
Botox in La Jolla

Why Botox Makes Sense in La Jolla

La Jolla averages more than 260 days of sunshine a year, and life here is lived outside — mornings at Windansea, rounds at Torrey Pines, lunch on Girard Avenue. All that sun means years of squinting, and squinting etches crow’s feet and forehead lines earlier than most people expect.
That’s the real reason Botox fits La Jolla: it isn’t about chasing youth, it’s maintenance for an outdoor life. Dosed conservatively, it softens what sun and expression wrote in while you keep every bit of natural movement — you look like yourself on your best-rested day, not like someone else.
And appointments take 3–10 minutes, so treatment fits between everything else on the calendar — right here in the neighborhood, with no downtime and no drive across the county.
Precision by area

Botox Treatment Areas

The FDA-approved cosmetic uses of Botox target the upper face — the areas where repeated expression etches the deepest lines.
01

Forehead Lines

Horizontal forehead lines from years of raised brows soften as the frontalis muscle relaxes. Typical dosing on our existing guide: 10–20 units.
02

Frown Lines (“11s”)

The vertical lines between the brows that can make you look angry or tired, even when you’re not. Typical dosing: 15–20 units for the glabella.
03

Crow’s Feet

The fan of fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes that deepens every time you smile or squint. Typical dosing: 8–10 units.
04

Masseter / Jaw (TMJ)

Botox in the masseter can slim a square jawline and ease jaw tension and teeth grinding. Dosing is individualized at consultation.

Safety & care

Is Botox Safe? Side Effects & Aftercare

Botox has been used cosmetically for over two decades and is FDA-approved. The most common side effects are temporary and mild: small bumps, redness, or minor bruising at injection points. Choosing a qualified, experienced injector matters most — precise placement is what keeps results natural and avoids issues like brow heaviness.
  • —Avoid vigorous exercise and rubbing or massaging treated areas after treatment
  • —Keep your head upright per your provider’s guidance
  • —Report anything unusual promptly

Botox vs. Dysport: What’s the Difference?

Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulators that relax expression muscles, and both treat forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. They differ in formulation, unit dosing (units are not interchangeable), and how quickly some patients notice onset — differences your injector will explain at consultation. Because each product deserves full coverage, Dysport has its own dedicated page.
